Our practice philosophy means that all women will be scanned by one of our specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologists who will keep you informed during your ultrasound examination. We have all worked extensively in the subspecialty areas of ultrasound and prenatal diagnosis.
Women’s experience at our practice is enjoyable, comfortable and informative during these important and sensitive examinations.

WUMe offers non-invasive prenatal testing using cell-free DNA (cfDNA) technology.
We use the Harmony™ Prenatal Testto screen for trisomes 21, 18 and 13 and analysis of fetal sex chromosomes.
The Harmony™ Prenatal Test:
- Is a maternal blood test performed from 10 weeks gestation onwards
- Detects >99% of fetal trisomy 21 cases at a false positive rate of <0.01%
- Provides an individualised risk result for each of the chromosomes tested
- The result will be available in 10-14 business days
The Harmony™ Prenatal Test costs $475.00. There is no Medicare rebate available.
Women who request the cfDNA test, require an early pregnancy scan to confirm viability, number of fetuses and gestational age prior to blood collection. The scan may be performed on the same day as blood collection at WUMe, or with an obstetrician or by another provider.
As in the current combined screening model, the result will be available at the time of the 12-week scan. We consider the 12-week scan to be an integral part of screening for fetal abnormalities. If the 12-week scan shows a major fetal abnormality or a thickened nuchal translucency (>3.5mm or above the 99th centile), we would still suggest an invasive procedure (CVS or amniocentesis). Regardless of prior screening test results, a molecular karyotype (microarray analysis) is suggested, as this group of fetuses is more likely to be affected by genetic conditions not detected by cfDNA or standard karyotype.
Women electing to have the cfDNA test will be given an information sheet and required to sign a consent form. Additional information and counselling will be available from our Doctors.
The Harmony™ Prenatal Test is an excellent screening test, but is not a diagnostic test. A high risk cfDNA result will still require confirmation via invasive procedure, but there will be fewer false-positives than with existing combined screening.
The Harmony™ Prenatal Test will be unsuccessful in about 4% of women. In this case, test fees will be returned. A second blood test will be offered, and informative in two-thirds of this group.
